Fine Italian carved and giltwood neoclassical console table, the original marble top (Spanish brocatello) over the apron with a center medallion mounted with a large floral boss and bellflower swags; the inset panels with applied leaves, scrolls and birds; the round tapering legs with leaf capitals and bellflower carved fluting.

Brocatello originated Spain. Found in shades of violet and gold, it was named after 'brocade', the luxurious silk fabric with gold thread. Popular throughout Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries, it was used on fine furniture and fireplaces, including Versailles. It had fallen out of favor by the end of the 19th c.
