The background of the tablet and splat is dark walnut, while the details are drawn in ink, an uncommon technique in Biedermeier furniture. Laurel leaves are a typical neoclassical motif, but the combination of blooms and berries is unusual.

The high style, yet playful design suggests the workshop of Gottlieb August Pohle or one of his followers.¹
