Fine Biedermeier cherrywood side chair, the tablet painted with a cameo portrait centering laurel leaves and berries; the splat with laurel leaves and blooms bordered by palm fronds; the upholstered seat on sabre legs.

The background of the tablet and splat is dark walnut, while the details are drawn in ink, an uncommon technique in Biedermeier furniture. Laurel leaves are a typical neoclassical motif, but the combination of blooms and berries is unusual.
The high style, yet playful design suggests the workshop of Gottlieb August Pohle or one of his followers.¹
