The elegant design and high quality materials in this chandelier suggest the work of Maison Baguès. Founded circa 1840 by Noel Bagues, the firm began producing bronze lighting fixtures around 1880. In the 1920's, grandsons Victor and Robert Bagues expanded the collection to include gilded iron fixtures. Eventually, the firm grew to operate retail branches in New York, London, Brussels, Rome and Cairo.
The open design and sweeping curves of the frame, together with the central pressed glass finial give this fixture a light, airy feel. The tall, slender daggers add to the effect, as do the swags of drop spears, which are graduated in length. The amethyst beads add a charming, whimsical quality.
